WHAT IS EMBODIED KIN?

The animal world is closer than we think.

Embodied Kin begins with the living intelligence already present in the body. As human beings, we remain part of the animal world, carrying ways of sensing, orienting, resting, protecting, connecting, moving, and playing that reach deeper than language. These patterns live through sensation, gesture, rhythm, attention, imagination, and the impulses that organize us from moment to moment.

The word embodied points toward what becomes known through lived, bodily experience. Kin speaks to relationship, family, and belonging. Together, Embodied Kin names a way of exploring the animal intelligence within us while remembering our relationship with the wider living world.

Through movement, creative expression, somatic awareness, and animal-inspired exploration, the work invites different qualities to become more available. Sometimes the body asks for rest or protection. At other times it reaches toward curiosity, alertness, play, strength, connection, or movement. Embodied Kin creates space to notice what is here, what may be needed, and what becomes possible when we listen.

Listen for what is instinctive, responsive, and alive.

WAYS INTO THE WORK

The body becomes a way of listening.

Embodied Kin is explored through sensation, movement, imagination, and creative expression.

Sensation

Notice what is already moving, resting, reaching, bracing, softening, or asking for attention.

Movement

Follow gesture, rhythm, posture, and impulse as different qualities begin to take shape.

Imagination

Let image, animal presence, memory, and symbolic association open another way of knowing.

Creative Expression

Give what emerges somewhere to go through mark-making, objects, sound, writing, play, or form.

There is nothing to perform and nothing to get right.

The work begins with curiosity, presence, and a willingness to notice what is already there.
